Man stabbed 14 times in 20 cent robbery

AAP December 7, 2009, 3:41 pm

A teenage boy has been charged after he allegedly stabbed a man 14 times after robbing him of 20 cents.

The 15-year-old was one of two youths who approached the man as he was walking back to work from a laundromat in Footscray, in Melbourne's west, at 2.15pm on November 29, police say.

The 23-year-old man from Bundoora told police the youths demanded money and one pulled out a knife.

He gave the 20 cents he had in his hand to the teen who then stabbed him 14 times with a knife to his upper body, arms, neck and face, inflicting serious injuries and leaving him in hospital until last Friday.

The 15-year-old from St Albans has been remanded in custody to appear at a children's court on January 5.

He was also charged in relation to another armed robbery on November 5.

Police are still looking for the second youth allegedly involved in the Footscray armed robbery.

Cabbie bashed for refusing to run lights
AAP December 6, 2009, 12:11 pm

A Melbourne taxi driver has been bashed by his passengers for refusing to run red lights, but another cabbie managed to trick a robber armed with a knife, locking him in his cab.

Police say in the first incident, about 2.15am (AEDT) on Sunday, a 33-year-old taxi driver picked up three men in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.

They asked him to take them to Ivanhoe, in Melbourne's northeast, but quickly turned aggressive, ordering the driver to drive through red lights in Nicholson Street.

When he refused, the passengers punched the cabbie in the face and tried to pull him out of the vehicle.

"One man got out of the taxi and broke the driver's mirror," a police spokesman said.

"They then took back the money they'd given him for a prepaid fare and fled."

The taxi driver was taken to St Vincent's Hospital with a suspected broken nose.

In the second incident, about six hours later, another Melbourne cabbie was held at knifepoint in Prahran.

A man flagged him down at the corner of Union and Punt roads and held a knife to his throat, demanding cash.

"The taxi driver advised the man he had money in the back and, as the would-be robber turned to look, the driver jumped out of the cab and locked the man inside," a police spokeswoman said.

"A police divisional van was just around the corner and responded to the taxi driver's call to triple-0, arresting the man in a matter of minutes."

A 20-year-old Mornington man is in custody at Prahran police station but is yet to be interviewed.

The 22-year-old taxi driver from Laverton was shaken but uninjured.

Yeah, things are pretty fucked right now in Melbs. I dunno if it's as bad in Sydney, but when I was walking down the street today (in Newtown, Sydney) I nearly tripped over a massive bunch of rags covered in blood, and there was like a blood trail down the footpath. Fun times.

Man who allegedly went on armed robbery spree in past two days arrested, charged

December 08, 2009 9:42PM

A MAN who allegedly went on an armed robbery spree in the last two days has been arrested and charged.

Police believe the man carried out three armed robberies in Melbourne's CBD, Doncaster and Box Hill.

The spate of robberies allegedly started yesterday morning at 1.30am at a convenience store in Queens Street, where a man armed with a box cutter stole money.

Police believe the same man travelled on to a Doncaster store about two hours later and used a pocket knife to demand money from the attendant.

The third robbery was alleged to have happened early this morning when a man with a broken beer bottle threatened staff at a convenience store in White Horse Road in Box Hill .

A 27-year old man from Ferntree Gully has been charged with three armed robberies and has been remanded in an out of sessions hearing to appear before the Melbourne Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
