I live in Melb. It's not that bad. I didn't get stabbed in an armed holdup until I was 31. I didn't get punched in the face by a stranger during school hours until I was 13.

My mates got bashed in Frankston last weekend. But that doesn't really count as Melbourne, right?

It's so weird but I've never even seen any random violence in melbourne. I guess I'm just lucky.

When I was younger I used to wander away from my friends in the city and go and talk to homeless people.

Nothing bad has ever happened to me.

nah, you can't count Frankston as Melbourne. Its the place where Melbourne people go to relax down by the bay. It's a calm retirement centre and a model township. Just because it has one of the highest youth unemployment rates and highest consumption of alcopops/capita and the lowest level of education completed citizens, and the greatest number of V8 cars per sq. kilometer. And just because 50% of the youth under the age of 25 have been or are on the dole, and that there are more junk food outlets per capita than any other town, including Dandenong...doesn't mean that it is necessarily a violent place to visit...but it does mean that if you can put two words together you are in trouble, because you are obviously having a go at the locals. They say there are only a dozen or so fathers in Frankston with a job, and they are responsible for most of the children!

Only the dumbest of the dumb below the age of 25 live there, anyone with any sense moved out a long time ago.

When I was a kid both Frankston and Dandenong were not part of the 03 area code so were STD calls and were not part of Melbourne...There were farms along Dandenong road especially past Springvale road...Same for Nepean Hwy prior to them making it 3-4 lanes through Elsternwick...
Today I'd say they are both part of Melbourne

LOL...Soon Werrebie and even Wallan will be part of Melbourne....When I was a kid St.Albans was not even part of Melbourne....
Stud rd and Knox city were also not part of Melbourne...
Melbourne has really grown since the 60's and 70's....

It sounds to me like these murders are a teenage attempt to break the spirit of adults. How the guy was knived by these two 15 year old suggests the teenagers might have known the guy, hated him, and wanted to have one less mean adult in the world. The differences between teenager and adult... such fertile breeding ground for antagonism.

Travelled/traveled is actually a regional thing, like color/colour, s/z, etc. We double the 'l', the yanks don't.
