    Would I have been flamed because we have a lot of sympathisers of the French here at VYA? Do a lot of people believe that nationalist pride and attachment to their particular ways of life is paramount and that other kinds are to be tolerated, but viewed as lesser than their own?

    Yes, this is true. For the record I just want to say that the French do make me angry, but I do believe they have redeeming qualities. Their cuisine and literature are among the finest in the world and their education system is very advanced and well structured.

    The only thing is they have to stop seeing themselves as the best civilization on the planet. They are a rich one, no doubt, but they're not the only one. They need to acknowledge that.
